Because i'm sure you haven't seen enough of this, some slightly belated comments about IRON MAN:

Sooooooo badass.

I was not at all previously acquainted with Iron Man (aside from like... knowing who he is?) as i am extremely poorly versed in superhero lore despite my purported love of superheroes. NOW I AM SAD THAT I AM SUCH A LAZY NERD.

One of my very very very very favorite moments was of course the last second of the film and "I am Iron Man." because oh man that goes against every emo superhero's all-consuming secret identity angst and WTF TONY STARK, WHY SO AWESOME. Perfect end note. PERFECT.

Iron Man vs. Iron Monger was insaaaaaanely great because a) ROBOT FIGHT HOLY SHIT and b) i loved the juxtaposition of gigantic clunky loud ostentatious Iron Monger and little sleek quick efficient Iron Man. Basically one of my favorite aspects of superheroes is AGILITY-- it is why i love Spider-Man so much, because he is a small skinny asskicking acrobat and that is SO FANTASTIC TO WATCH.

TONY/PEPPER. Uhm it's almost kind of like if James Bond had ever ACTUALLY had a real relationship with Moneypenny. Or something!!! IN ANY CASE, yes, win, unrequited quick-witted awesomeness, Tony loves the color red and he does in fact have a heart. HOT PEOPLE. BEING GREAT. AND HOT. <3 <3 <3

!!!!!!!!! "Just call us S.H.I.E.L.D." !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOVED IT. NICK FURY WTF.

<3 <3 Tony and Rhodes!

The first rocket boot test with Tony being thrown very very quickly and violently into the wall cracked me up THE MOST. UNEXPECTED HILARITY.

And helloooooooo Robert Downey Jr. Nice arms, fella! APPROVED. I suddenly feel the need to rewatch Kiss Kiss Bang Bang due to awesomeness. Fast-talking awesomeness. Fast-talking UNRELIABLE NARRATOR awesomeness.

...Anyway!

FIC RECS that you have probably already seen but deserve to be mentioned nonetheless: Vignettes In Ferrum by [info]latropita; Drink Deep by [info]dafnap.

So MAN. SNEAK ATTACK AWESOME MOVIES, livejournal approved! Ha ha i love you lj and your sudden and intense explosions of fannishness, that is totally not annoying when it's something i agree with!

MARINA, YES. I've read quite a few lukewarm reactions WRT the ending, and I'm like, DUDES, WHAT THE HELL? ROBOTS FIGHTING. WHAT IS MORE AWESOME THAN THAT. (Plus, Robots with freaking Robert Downey Jr and Jeff Bridges at the helm - did you ever think in your entire life?!) It was like 99% of the reason I went to see Transformers, (the other 1% = childhood nostalgia) but that movie failed so hard on every level that I couldn't even entirely appreciate the semi-cool special effects because I just felt so manipulated the whole time. But Iron Man was so, so, SO great that when it came to the grand finale, even if it wasn't quite as um, cerebral as the rest of the film, I was fully ready to embrace the pure popcorn spectacle of it, because my heart was so full of love for the movie in the general sense. I DON'T KNOW IF THAT MADE SENSE. Basically: Robots = cool. Iron Man = near perfect.

Uhm it's almost kind of like if James Bond had ever ACTUALLY had a real relationship with Moneypenny.

Yes. And also YES to what you said about the ending. Tony Stark is a bad ass. IRON MAN 2, GET HERE NOW.

WHAAAAAAAAAAAAT. LUKEWARM REACTIONS?!? BUT ROBOTS KICKING ASS ALL OVER THE PLACE! And oh man i agree with you 10000000% re: Transformers. The robot fights were cool, but that movie's awfulness made me feel SO BAD that i couldn't even enjoy it, nothing could make up for my disillusionment with the whole thing. Whereas Iron Man was so awesome ALREADY that it all worked out in a happymaking action-packed robot destruction fest! So basically: YEAH I GET YOU.

I keep thinking "GODDDDDDDD, it is going to be FOREVER until a sequel!!!!!!!" and then i think about how fast those things actually come around. Like seriously wasn't Batman Begins just out??! WHAT!

SUPERHEROES AND ROBOTS, JENN! A++++++++++++ Your kickass Bale icon obviously agrees.

NICK FOCKEN FURY!!!!!!!!! Man, that dude IS Samuel L, isn't he??? I read somewhere that he was the actual reference for that character so When captain america throws his mighty S.H.H.H.H.I.I.I.I.E.E.E.L.L.L.L.L.D.D.D.D.

My favorite bit was the helper robot duuuude! "Douse me again when i'm not on fire and i'm donating you to a community college." JUST TRYIN TO HELP.

Dude the thing i looooooooved about this movie was that Tony was not angsty or emo at all! Or if he was, it wasn't something all-consuming or his driving force or whatever. He was just a GOOD GUY. Not to say that angsty superheroes are a bad thing; I am OF COURSE psyched/excited/ripping at my hair for THE DARK NIGHT. This may interest you!.

Oh my god your subject line gave me the best mental picture ever of Tony ironing clothes and Pepper walking in on him and being like "whaaat is this." and Tony saying "I AM IRON MAN." While brandishing an iron. BEST.

Hahaha i did NOT know that Samuel L. was the reference for Nick Fury, that makes that 12974618075682365 times even better. AWESOME.

I looooved Tony with his sassy robots, AGREED. Also Tony just deciding to do what's right while still being his own nonconformist, non-emo snarky badass self. <3

THAT VIDEO, HAHAHAHA. Love it. Tony would totally be able to lighten Bruce up a little, sometimes i really wish Marvel and DC could cross over. Sigh.

Uhm it's almost kind of like if James Bond had ever ACTUALLY had a real relationship with Moneypenny.

God, I was SUCH a Bond/Moneypenny shipper after Goldeneye, and now that you mention it, you're totally right re: pinging the same 'shippydar. I feel sort of like a tool of the patriarchy? But I'm also shallow, so it evens out.

...because oh man that goes against every emo superhero's all-consuming secret identity angst

YES. The whole film was like that! They cast a female actress that wasn't just there to look pretty, therefore making her whatshouldhavebeencliche-role integral and awesome; they actually remembered that superheroes can be funny without being campy; despite it being a superhero film they allowed subtle acting (RDJ EYES MARINA. HIS EYEEEEEEEES) instead of the usual broad (emo) strokes; and DUDE, they totally got me to like The Paltrow? I'm STILL confused about that.

Also, thanks for the rec dude, it's nice to know other people dig completely unresolved porn that I had to write so they'd stop doing in my head :D

Oh, and [info]dotfic is having some hot/angsty drabble fic in her comments, in case you still need a fix. Oh! And [info]musesfool posted equally hot UST with Foundation! There is back touching!

I have never liked Bond girls, Moneypenny was always where it's at for me. It's not about shipping bosses with secretaries/assistants though! It's about charming sexually charged banter and giving as good as they get! AT LEAST THAT'S HOW I RATIONALIZE IT. ...But i also ship tall boys/short girls just cause it looks nice. So. Tool of the patriarchy, pretty much.

AGREED ON ALL COUNTS OF AWESOMENESS. Pepper was the one who saved the daaaaay and Gwyneth totally didn't suck at all, she was actually adorable and great. And it helps that apparently RDJ has chemistry with anything! EVEN (especially?) ROBOTS.

in case you still need a fix.

Apparently i ALWAYS still need a fix. What the hell livejournal, i was into them in the movie but not quite super duper fannish levels and then everybody just laid fic right in front of me and it only added fuel to the fire. WTF FANDOM, thanks a lot. (except seriously, thank you, omg <3)
